You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number. If a driver is not available or if you’ve updated the driver and still can’t select the scanner, find out if your scanner uses TWAIN technology.

I have reinstalled the driver from the original CD and the error message is still issued. With the Canon, using Windows Fax proo4000 Scan, I could select the Fax from Scanner function which would first scan and then attach the scanned document to a fax form.
Does the issue persist when you perform a scan of a particular document? As I have stated, I am able to scan documents and save them on my computer so obviously it is on and connected.

I then worked with scna Lexmark technician who connected to my computer and tried many different things to resolve the issue but was unsuccessful. Would the drivers for this be different than the drivers that Lexmark shows for my printer? Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers attempt to trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services. Thank you for choosing Windows lxemark thanks for providing us an opportunity to assist you. However I am able to select the Scan function and get the document scanned. Make sure that you’ve correctly connected the scanner or multifunction printer with scanning capabilities to your computer, and that the device is powered on.

She did confirm that all my drivers were up to date. So my conclusion is that Windows Fax and Scan gets along with Canon scanners but not Lexmark and I will just have to live with my work around.
As per the description, you are lexjark issues with Scanning.
